Anderson
dos Santos
has a strangulation fixation. The Babuino Gold Team bantamweight on Saturday strengthened his
position on the
Ultimate Fighting Championship
roster, as he submitted Martin Day
with a guillotine choke in the first round of their featured

UFC on ESPN 18
prelim at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Day (8-5,
0-3 UFC) raised the white flag 4:35 into Round 1 and remains
winless through three appearances inside the Octagon.

Dos Santos (21-8, 1-2 UFC) swooped in on a takedown midway through
the first round despite considerable resistance from the former
Universal Reality Combat Championship titleholder. Day absorbed
some ground-and-pound, created some space out of butterfly guard
and sprang to his feet. However, he transitioned to an ill-advised
takedown of his own, left his neck exposed and walked into a trap.
Soon after, the guillotine was in place and Day’s night was
done
.

The 35-year-old dos Santos sports 12 submission victories on his
resume, 11 of them via choke.

Mazany Body Kick Unravels Ostovich

Glory MMA’s Gina Mazany
cut down “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 26 quarterfinalist Rachael
Ostovich
with a front kick to the body in the third round of
their women’s flyweight encounter. Ostovich (4-6, 1-3 UFC) bowed
out 4:10 into Round 3, as she suffered her third straight
defeat.

Mazany (7-4, 2-4 UFC) wore down the Hawaiian with a series of
clinches, takedowns and ground exchanges. Ostovich did her best
work on the counter, but she failed to stay upright long enough to
turn the tide in her favor. Mazany fought through fatigue,
continued her pursuit of takedowns and struck when the moment was
right. She buried the second of two front kicks into Ostovich’s
midsection
with roughly a minute remaining in the match,
followed up with a few punches and forced referee Mark Smith to
intervene.

The win was Mazany’s first in the UFC in more than three years.

Promising Mudaerji Filets Gordon

Enbo Gedou export Su Mudaerji
put away Bellator MMA alum Malcolm
Gordon
with punches in the first round of their flyweight
clash. Gordon (12-5, 0-2 UFC) succumbed to blows 44 seconds into
Round 1, the unwitting victim of the third-fastest finish in UFC
history at 125 pounds.

Mudaerji (13-4, 2-1 UFC) seemed to have the Canadian measured from
the outset. Stinging leg kicks gave way to surgical left hands, and
Gordon had no means of recourse. Mudaerji sent a straight left
crashing into his face, then followed with a sneaky left hook around the guard that
short-circuited his adversary and resulted in a delayed-reaction
knockdown
. The 24-year-old Tibetan prospect connected with a
final shot on the prone Gordon before referee Dan Miragliotta could
arrive on the scene.

On a two-fight winning streak, Mudaerji has now delivered 11 of his
13 career victories by knockout or technical knockout.

Maness Choke Submits Sanders

Former TKO Major League MMA champion Joseph
Nathan Maness
submitted Luke
Sanders
with a rear-naked choke in the second round of their
catchweight pairing at 140 pounds. Maness (13-1, 2-0 UFC) brought
it to a close 2:29 into Round 2, extending his run of consecutive
victories to three.

In his first appearance in nearly two years, Sanders (13-4, 3-4
UFC) was in charge of much of the action. The onetime Resurrection
Fighting Alliance titleholder chipped away at Maness with leg
kicks, forced clinches and swarmed with punches along the fence,
his potent left hand tipping the spear. However, his overzealous
offensive blitzes left him vulnerable. Maness withstood a burst of
punches against the cage midway through the second round, floored
his counterpart with a clubbing right hand and went to work. The
rangy Kentucky native executed a takedown, moved to mount and
ultimately progressed to the back, at which point he cinched the choke and prompted the
tapout
.

Sanders, 34, has lost four of his past six bouts.
