Jones can now call himself a two-division champion in Cage
Warriors.
The reigning lightweight king defeated Adam
Proctor via technical knockout to claim the vacant 170-pound
strap in the Cage Warriors 116 main event at BEC Arena in
Manchester, England, on Saturday. Jones (10-0) brought a halt to
the contest with a series of unanswered punches to the side of his
opponent’s head 4:31 into Round 1.
“They look good on my shoulders,” Jones said of the belts.
“Everyone knew I could do this. I knew I could get him out of there
early, and I showed that.”
Jones ignored a visible size discrepancy to draw Proctor (12-2)
into a fire fight. Although Proctor was able to sting the Welshman
with long, rangy strikes on occasion, “The Dragon” landed the most
significant blows of the bout. He dropped Proctor with a left
during an early exchange and followed his man to the canvas,
unloading with ground-and-pound in pursuit of the finish. Proctor
was able to maintain his composure and work his way back up, but he
was living on borrowed time.
Shortly thereafter, Jones floored Proctor again with another left
hand. Jones then threatened a back take before softening his foe
with four or five vicious elbows from above. Jones continued the
onslaught from there, pounding away with right hands on his reeling
foe. Proctor did his best to cover up, but Jones landed nearly 25
unanswered blows before referee Marc Goddard
decided he had seen enough and halted the bout.
After the victory, Jones delivered a message to UFC president Dana
White and matchmaker Sean Shelby.
“Find the biggest, deadliset lightweight monster you can find, and
I’ll go out there and dismantle him,” Jones said.
“It’s my time, it’s always MY time”

Paul
Hughes remained undefeated in the evening’s co-main event,
submitting Aidan
Stephen in the third round of a featherweight showdown. The
Fight Academy Ireland representative forced the tapout at the 4:21
mark of the period for his sixth finish in as many professional
appearances.
Hughes (6-0) worked his way to back mount late in Round 3, and he
flattened Stephen out while threatening with the rear-naked choke.
To his credit, Stephen resisted the initial attempts, but Hughes
remained persistent, locking in a body triangle to apply even more
pressure. When Stephen rose to his knees, Hughes slid his right arm
under his foe’s neck with a tight palm-to-palm grip, eliciting the
tapout in a matter of seconds.
In earlier main card action: Kieran
Lister (6-0-1) took a unanimous verdict (29-28, 30-27, 30-27)
over Tom
Mearns (6-5) at lightweight; Sam Creasey
(12-3) outpointed (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) Nicolas
Leblond (4-3) in a flyweight tilt and Jordan
Vucenic (6-1) edged Steve
Aimable (14-8) via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28) at
featherweight.
