weekend. The
Ultimate Fighting Championship continues its busy September
with
UFC Fight Night 177. The main event on Saturday sees women’s
strawweight mainstays Michelle
Waterson and Angela Hill
looking to return to the win column.
“The Karate Hottie” finds herself in a familiar place headlining a
UFC card, albeit on a two-fight losing streak having lost decisions
to Joanna
Jedrzejczyk and Carla
Esparza. Prior to her recent disappointments, “The Karate
Hottie” had racked up three wins in the division with the biggest a
decision win over Karolina
Kowalkiewicz. Always a professional, Waterson came in at 115
pounds on the dot.
Even though Hill (12-8) is coming off a split decision loss to
Claudia
Gadelha, she finds herself in the main event slot. Prior to
that setback, “Overkill” was on an impressive three-fight winning
streak having stopped Hannah
Cifers and Ariane
Carnelossi and getting a nod from the judges over Konklak
Suphisara. Hill will look to get back into contention with a
win and looked prepared on the scales by weighing 115.5 pounds.
Although every fighter that hit the scales for this now 12-fight
card made their proper marks, one bout was scratched due to weight
issues. The flyweight match between Matt
Schnell and Tyson Nam was
removed due to “weight
management issues” for Schnell. Also of note, Kevin Croom
(154.5) will be stepping in to face Roosevelt
Roberts (155.5) at lightweight on extremely short notice after
Matt
Frevola
pulled out due to an injury. Finally, Jalin
Turner (163.5) and Brok Weaver
(164) hit their 165-pound catchweight limit with relative ease, and
“The Tarantula” did so while carrying one of his tarantulas to the
scale.
UFC Fight Night 177 will air in its entirety on ESPN+. The prelims
kick off at 5 p.m. ET/2 p.m. PT, while the main card starts at 8
p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.
