KSW 54 has undergone a last-minute change to its scheduled main
event.
On Tuesday morning, Konfrontacja Sztuk Walki revealed that Shamil
Musaev sustained a knee injury in training, and he won’t be
able to challenge Mateusz
Gamrot for the lightweight title at KSW 54. As a re-sult, the
Polish promotion announced that “Gamer” is now locking horns with
Marian
Ziolkowski.
After tapping to former KSW featherweight champion Kleber
Koike Erbst in his promotional debut, Ziolkowski (21-7-1) has
scored back-to-back victories at the expense of both Grzegorz
Szulakowski and Gracjan
Szadzinski at KSW 46 and KSW 48, respectively. “Golden Boy” was
already scheduled to clash with Maciej
Kazieczko (6-1) in a 155-pound bout at KSW 54, but he
immediately took the chance to fight for the divisional title when
the opportunity arose. At the moment, the Polish promotion is also
looking for a new opponent for Kazieczko.
In his
latest cage appearance, Gamrot (16-0) picked Norman
Parke apart in a grudge match that settled their bitter rivalry
once and for all at KSW 53. Prior, “Gamer” became the first
two-division champion in the Polish promotion’s history after
dropping down a weight class and winning the featherweight title at
the expense of Kleber
Koike Erbst at KSW 46.
KSW 54 will take place in Poland on Aug. 29. On the same card,
former professional boxer and kickbox-er Izuagbe
Ugonoh will make his MMA debut against Quentin
Domingos in the heavyweight division. The card will also
feature lightweight clashes in Lukasz
Rajewski vs. Bartlomiej
Kopera and Sebastian
Rajewski vs. Armen
Stepanyan.
