Cage Warriors Fighting Championship has announced the first
fight that will take place on its September tripleheader. On Thursday morning, the British promotion announced
that Morgan
Charriere will get a second chance to win a Cage Warriors belt
as he takes on ex-Professional
Fighters League tournament member Max Coga in a
featherweight title affair at CW
116. The championship was vacated after former divisional
champion Mads
Burnell signed with Bellator
MMA.
Charriere (15-7-1) last competed in October 2019, where he stopped
former champion Dean
Trueman in the third stanza at CW 109. Prior to the win, the
Team Chapa Quente representative edged Lewis
Monarch by split decision at CW 106 in June 2019. “Luffy”
dropped his first with the promotion against Soren Bak at
CW 103, losing in a title fight by majority verdict.
Coga (22-6-1) is currently riding a two-bout winning streak. In his
last two cage appearances he submitted his opponents, tapping
Athinodoros
Michailidis and Roman Avdal
at GMC 21 and GMC 23, respectively. “Mad Max” took part in the 2018
season of PFL, where he smashed Marcos
Galvao but dropped a pair of decisions to Timur
Valiev and Lance
Palmer and did not qualify for the playoffs.
CW 116 will go down on Sept. 26, and together with CW 114 and CW
115, is part of “The Trilogy.” This tripleheader of events has been
planned for CW’s return, where multiple champions will also put
their titles on the line over the weekend.
