The two women accusing Abdul Razak Alhassan of sexual assault testified against the UFC fighter in Tarrant County (Texas) Court on Tuesday, according to a report from the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Alhassan was indicted on two counts of sexual assault by a Tarrant County jury on Sept. 24, 2018.
Alhassan is accused of raping two women inside of their homes after meeting them at the Varsity Tavern in Fort Worth, where he was working as a bouncer on March 23, 2018. The women, ages 20 and 22 at the time, were allowed by Alhassan to enter the club, after the fighter asked the older of the two, “What are you going to do for me?” The 22-year-old gave him her phone number and they were allowed to enter.
The women were there to celebrate the birthday of Fort Worth police officer Joshua Yates, who sometimes worked security at the establishment. They would become intoxicated over the course of the night and witnesses said they saw Alhassan and the older woman kissing in a hallway. Bar employee Pedro Rocha testified that he saw Alhassan and both females come out of a storage closet in an employee-only area of the club.
Later, Alhassan asked Yates to help him get the women into a vehicle, but Yates declined. At the time, the 22-year-old had passed out. Alhassan eventually got both women into the car and took them to the younger woman’s house in Saginaw, according to testimony. The younger women’s mother let them into the residence but wasn’t aware that Alhassan stayed.
The younger woman said during testimony that she did not know that Alhassan was in her room until he shoved her down onto the bed and pulled up her dress.
“When he put my face in the bed, the room was completely dark,” the younger woman said during testimony. “That’s when I found out there was a guy in my room. He pulled my dress up and sexually assaulted me. All I could see is my bed.”
After Alhassan allegedly finished assaulting the younger woman, he moved to the other bed where her friend was sleeping and allegedly raped the older woman.
“I didn’t know what to do,” the younger woman said. “I was scared. I froze. It felt like I should have erupted. Instead, I didn’t. I froze.”
The younger woman’s mother testified that she was awakened by her daughter, who was concerned that something was wrong with her friend. The mother told the jury that the older woman was wearing her panties inside out and both of her legs were in one leg hole. A used condom was on top of the older woman’s purse. She eventually took both women to a nearby hospital.
“I felt scared myself,” the mother testified. “I guess I felt like I should have known that night.”
Alhassan was allowed to fight after being indicted on the sexual assault charges. He competed at UFC 228 on Sept. 8, 2018, defeating Niko Price by knockout 43 seconds into the opening round. The 34-year-old was 4-1 in the Octagon with four KO victories but hasn’t fought since defeating Price.
According to the report, Alhassan’s attorney, Brandon Barnett said his client had consensual sex with the younger woman after taking them home. Barnett claims Alhassan did not touch her friend, however. The attorney also described Alhassan as a local celebrity who was very popular with women. Testimony in the trial is ongoing.
