Bellator MMA is building up a mighty main card for its return trip to London in May.
On Friday morning, the promotion announced that Fabian Edwards (9-0) will be taking on Costello van Steenis (12-2) in a pivotal middleweight matchup in the co-main event of Bellator London. The event will go down at The SSE Arena in London on May 16, and it will be headlined by a bantamweight clash between James Gallagher and Callum Ellenor. Additionally, the card will also feature the debut of British international rugby player James Haskell in the heavyweight division.
Edwards is unbeaten as a professional, with his method of victory perfectly split throughout his career. He has knocked out three opponents, submitted another three and defeated three more on the scorecards. “The Assassin” competed four times in 2019, taking three decisions over Lee Chadwick, Jonathan Bosuku and most recently, Mike Shipman, while knocking out Falco Neto Lopes. The brother of Ultimate Fighting Championship welterweight contender Leon Edwards, the middleweight made his MMA debut with the Bellator promotion, flattening Rafal Cejrowski with a flying knee at Bellator 179 in 2017.
Fighting out of the Netherlands, “The Spaniard” ran into a roadblock in his last time out when he dropped a unanimous verdict to John Salter. The bout marked the first time that Salter had ever gone the distance, although both of van Steenis’ defeats have come at the hands of the judges. Prior to the loss, van Steenis won his first four Bellator appearances, including stoppages due to strikes over Shipman, Kevin Fryer and Steve Skrzat in his debut.
