Sean O’Malley vs. Jose Alberto Quinonez Rescheduled for UFC 247 in Houston

Sean O’Malley will make his long awaited return to the Octagon in a rescheduled bout against Jose Alberto Quinonez at UFC 247.

O’Malley announced the booking on his Instagram account, and the featherweight fight was subsequently confirmed by multiple outlets. UFC 247 takes place at the Toyota Center in Houston on Feb. 8 and is headlined by a light heavyweight championship clash between Jon Jones and Dominick Reyes. In the co-main event, Valentina Shevchenko will defend her flyweight crown against Katlyn Chookagian.

O’Malley hasn’t competed since March 2018, when he earned a unanimous decision win over Andre Soukhamthath at UFC 222. The Dana White’s Contender Series alum was initially slated to face Quinonez at UFC 229 but had to exit the contest after testing positive for ostarine. The failed test was determined to have occurred due to a contaminated supplement, clearing “Sugar” to return to action.

However, O’Malley tested positive for ostarine against prior to a UFC 239 matchup with Marlon Vera and was sidelined yet again as USADA investigated the result. The 25-year-old MMA Lab product is unbeaten in 10 professional appearances.

Quinonez has won five of his last six promotional outings, with his only defeat during that time coming at the hands of Nathaniel Wood at UFC Fight Night 147. Most recently, “El Teco” took a decision against Carlos Huachin at UFC Fight Night 159 on Sept. 21.
