Two titles were on the line at CW 111, the latest offering from Cage Warriors Fighting Championship, which went down on Friday at the O2 Arena in London.
The headliner saw the middleweight title up for grabs as James Webb and Nathias Frederick locked horns once again. The two clashed back at CW 106, where they put on a 25-minute back-and-forth show which ended by majority draw. The two Englishmen didn’t spare themselves either this time, exchanging hard shots on one another and trying to overcome their opponent in every aspect of the game. Eventually, Frederick cracked Webb with a series of hard punches that made the defending champ unable to protect himself. The end of the contest came in the very last second of the fourth stanza, and Frederick became the new champion in dramatic fashion.
It took less than one round for CW light heavyweight king Modestas Bukauskas to dispatch challenger Riccardo Nosiglia. Bukauskas (10-2) adopted a cautious strategy as the Italian contender dictated the pace in the first minutes of the fight. Nosiglia took his opponent to the ground, but the champ was able to scramble and get back to his feet. When Nosiglia shot in again, Bukauskas landed several vicious elbows to the side of his opponent’s head that shut Nosiglia’s lights out. The referee called a stop to the action at 3:51 of the opening frame. The Lithuanian scored his ninth stoppage among ten wins, and perhaps none more emphatic than this knockout.
In a 145-pound non-title affair, CW featherweight champ Mads Burnell edged Steve Aimable via unanimous decision. Burnell was slated to defend his belt against the English challenger, but Aimable missed weight by .2 pounds. This weight miss downgraded the championship matchup to a three-round bout.
In the opening fight of the main card, Joilton Lutterbach crushed Alex Lohore via first-round knockout just 27 seconds into their welterweight encounter. After getting the finish, the German from Brazil proceeded to taunt and mock his fallen opponent, indicating that he did not appreciate the Frenchman’s trash talking to promote their fight.
