Polarizing SBG Ireland talent Dillon Danis has a date for his second mixed martial arts bout.
Danis announced during “Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show” on Monday that he will return against Max Humphreys at Bellator 221 on May 11. The bout will be contested at a 175-pound catchweight. Bellator 221 takes place at Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Ill., and is headlined by a lightweight title clash between Michael Chandler and Patricio Freire.
A training partner of Conor McGregor, Danis was suspended seven months and fined $7,500 for his role in a post-fight brawl following McGregor’s fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov on Oct. 6. The Nevada State Athletic Commission levied the sanctions against Danis due to charges of unsportsmanlike conduct, as the fighter had to be restrained by security personnel and made obscene gestures toward Nurmagomedov and his team. Danis’ suspension will officially end on May 6.
Danis, a decorated grappler, made his MMA debut at Bellator 198, where he submitted Kyle Walker with a toe hold 1:38 into the opening stanza last April.
Humphreys owns a 3-2 career mark and is coming off a 16-second technical knockout loss on a regional card in July 2018.
