Report: Mirsad Bektic Injured, Out of UFC 231 Bout Against Renato Carneiro

UFC 231’s main card just took a big hit, losing a pivotal featherweight matchup when Mirsad Bektic suffered an injury in training.

According to Nolan King from FloCombat, featherweight Mirsad Bektic has been forced to withdraw from his main card bout against Renato “Moicano” Carneiro due to an undisclosed injury. The promotion has not yet announced a replacement, although one is reportedly being sought.

Bektic (13-1) was making his return riding a two-fight win streak over Ricardo Lamas and Godofredo Castro. Bektic was actually set to face “Moicano” once before at UFC Fight Night 67 in 2015 but Carneiro pulled out of that matchup due to an injury.

His former opponent, Carneiro (13-1-1), who may still remain on the card, is also having a successful 2018 campaign with victories over Calvin Kattar and Cub Swanson. Both fighters have experienced one lone setback in their respective careers, with each losing by third round stoppage in 2017.

UFC 231 is headlined by a featherweight championship fight between Max Holloway and Brian Ortega on Dec. 8 at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Co-headlining will be a women’s flyweight title fight between former strawweight queen Joanne Jedrzejczyk against former bantamweight challenger Valentina Shevchenko.
