Bethe Correia Injured; Bout vs. Irene Aldana Pulled from UFC 227 Lineup

Former women’s bantamweight title challenger Bethe Correia has withdrawn from a proposed bout against Irene Aldana at UFC 227 due to injury, the promotion announced Tuesday.

The 135-pound contest will not be replaced, so Saturday’s card will proceed with 12 bouts. UFC 227 takes place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and is headlined by a bantamweight title rematch between T.J. Dillashaw and Cody Garbrandt. In the co-main event, Demetrious Johnson will defend his flyweight crown against Henry Cejudo in another rematch.

The evening’s main card airs on pay-per-view at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT. Prelims begin on UFC Fight Pass before moving to FX at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m PT. Correia vs. Aldana was slated for the FX portion of the prelims.

Correia hasn’t competed since suffering a head-kick knockout loss to Holly Holm in the UFC Fight Night 111 main event in June 2017. The Brazilian is just 1-3-1 in her last five Octagon appearances, including a 34-second knockout loss to Ronda Rousey in a title bout at UFC 190.

After opening her promotional tenure with back-to-back losses, Aldana picked up her first Octagon victory with a unanimous decision triumph over Talita Bernardo at UFC Fight Night 124.
